On September 9, a pastoral worker in the town of Taytay near Manila found Father Normer de Lumen dead in his room with two revolver shells near by. He immediately called the police who pronounced him dead at the scene and began an investigation into the incident. The dynamics of the death are still under investigation by authorities who are working under the assumption of murder.
Father Nomer de Lumen had only recently been ordained a priest and was the assistant parish priest in Saint John the Baptist Parish, Taytay (having been appointed in December of 2019). Father Nomer also served as the director of the commission for social communications of the diocese of Antipolo. The Chancellor of the Diocese of Antipolo, Father Alejandro Pestano told mourners:
"This is a serious loss for our community: a priest who gave so much and could still give to the pastoral and missionary work",
